Golden Rule

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”  ― Maya Angelou

Skin changes as we grow and mature in age. What you did as a young person may show in your skin decades later. I am 25 and I used to tan carelessly in my late teens to early 20s. Luckily I have change my ways and I wear a large brim hat, eat foods that have antioxidants that help protect the skin internally. I also use high quality skin care products that will protect and nourish my skin. One new purchase that I have made is from La Bella Figura, Daily Elements Defense Oil. Which I am enjoying using it in the mornings.  Of course the sun is not the enemy, we have to be wise about how much exposure we get. It seems natural that when the strongest rays of the sun, animals would go in a shady spot to relax and rest. You see animals more active during the mornings hours and the later hours when the sun is out. At least that is what I have noticed. Now that spring is upon us, we are more active, enjoying the beautiful, and sunny sky.

Here are some ways to take of your skin and reap the benefits for years to come.

1)  Diet plays a huge role in protecting our skin. When we eat foods that have rich in nutrients we are doing our body good. Eating foods that are high in Lycopene ( Tomatoes), Astaxanthin (Found in Salmon), Vitamin D ( Mushrooms) , Omega 3 Fatty Acids( Flax, Fish), Beta Carotene( Sweet Potatoes, Kale) help protect our skin internally.

2) Wear a large brim hat when outdoors, whenever possible. This helps shield your scalp, face and neck from the rays of the sun. Also if you can avoid the strongest rays of the sun which are 11 am to 3 pm, take note on which location that you live. The hours could vary, and have common sense, if you are prone to sun burn, then keep in a shady area.

3) If you wear make-up, make sure you wash your face nightly!!

In the morning  I  use a hydrosol, like Rose Geranium and saturate my skin, the apply raw manuka honey and massage my skin. Then rinse and apply a moisturizer.

4) Exercise, it helps circulate blood filled with oxygen and nutrients through out  your body. It helps decrease stress, and it is so much fun depending on the exercise that you do.

5) Use only the highest quality skin care products that works for you. Plant oils are amazing and have so many nutrients to keep skin supple and hydrated.

I hope you enjoy these tips.

Cacao Flecks

The rich aroma of raw vanilla and cacao mixed with manuka honey, creates one seductive mask. The smell of it is amazing, it includes other potent ingredients and when blended together has healing properties for the skin.

Here is what you will need.

1/4 Teaspoon Raw Vanilla Bean: Gentle exfoliator, scent helps to reduce stress and anxiety, has the following minerals, magnesium, manganese, potassium, iron and zinc.

1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder: Anti- Inflammatory, Anti- Bacterial Properties, Anti-Aging.

1/4 Rose Powder (Rosa Canina) :Vitamins A, C, D, E, flavonoids, lycopene, iron, Rose hips contain anti-inflammatory properties.

1/4 Teaspoon Rose Powder( SSP): Another variety of Rose.

1/4 Teaspoon of Raw Cacao paste or powder: Firm and renew skin cells, Anti-Inflammatory. Has the following minerals iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, selenium and so many others.

I use the brand Ojio, but you can use any that you like.If it’s organic even better.

I then blend the ingredients together, the smell of the raw vanilla bean and cacao is so beautiful.

Then add 1 Teaspoon of Raw Manuka Honey to the mix

I also add some healing oils. 5 drops of Rose Otto, if you don’t have Rose Otto you can substitute it for Rose Hip Seed Oil, or Rose water. Then I add German Chamomile, again you don’t have to add it, but this definitely calms down inflame skin. And a special treat, La Bella Figuras Barbary Fig Seed Oil.
Add as much as you like. I add about 4 drops of the German Chamomile and 2 pumps of the Barbary Fig Seed Oil.

Blend all ingredients together and apply to clean face. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. You can even use it as a cleanser.

Enjoy Life.

The Ritual

My home is my sanctuary. When I come home from work, I don’t want to think about it or get caught up in what had happened. I want to unwind and relax.  I make sure to feed my body with organic, whole foods. Lately I have been enjoying black quinoa with a medley of fresh baby greens. Topped off with mushrooms and a tangy, spicy sauce.

By eating foods that are rich in nutrients we are able to help our bodies stay healthy, ward off disease and feel better overall.  I have changed my diet alot. By cutting out the junk and eating only wholesome foods, my skin is looking alot better. I will post pictures of the progress later on. I tend to lean towards a plant-based diet. Back then my diet was full of processed foods and I made no time!! to eat healthy.  Even though I work alot, I have to put myself first and take at least 30 minutes to sit down and eat in peace during my lunch break.

I would also drink teas that were sooooo sugary. Now I make my own,  if I want something sweet, I make a chai tea that has almond milk and raw honey. It has spices such as ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper, cloves and of course black tea. Making your own tea is very simple. My favorite is green tea with fresh mint.

I make all of my food from scratch. It is way cheaper, I used to spend so much money eating out. Now all of that money goes towards my business that I am working on.
And it is alot healthier for you as well,  another benefit is you know what you are putting in your body.

I also make my own skin cleansers and mask fresh, almost daily. Depending on what ingredients I have available and the condition of my skin.

I blend several dry ingredients such as hibiscus powder, rosehip seed powder and many more. Blend it with manuka honey. I then add German Chamomile which is rich in anti-inflammatory and healing properties.  I also add a blend of several essential oils one of them being helichrysum.

After I blend. I apply to a clean face letting all of the goodness of the mask being absorbed into the skin. I then relax , I tend to meditate and it has help with my stress. Stress takes a HUGE toll on your body. And I am working on that by doing breathing exercises and doing activities that make me feel good.

Letting go of the old and inviting good thoughts that is what I aim for every night.

A Clean Canvas.

When it comes to cleaning your face, it is very important to do it nightly and not strip your skin of its natural oils. You have to make sure to remove makeup, grime, city smog ect.  I tend not to wear makeup, the most important thing for me is to make sure my face is clean, soft and moisturize . There are many options to cleanse the face.

One of my favorite way to wash my face  is to use pure Manuka Honey.  I only been using the 12+, when I have the chance  I will find the 15+  at my local health food or coop.  Manuka has sooooo many healing properties and it is non drying.  To make it more moisturizing, you can add any oil of your choice.

You can try any combination with healing, rejuvenating oils.

One combo that I love is Tamanu and Manuka.

This is the perfect combination in my opinion. Tamanu oil has amazing healing benefits for the skin. It has the ability to form new skin cells. In combination with Manuka Honey, you have a power duo to cleanse, and rejuvenate the skin.

Also I learned a tip by reading Victoria’s post from La Bella Figura Blog, she cleanses her skin with Manuka and she adds Barbary Fig Seed Oil to her honey. Definetely going to give that a try since I received a bottle in the mail that my boyfriend had purchased for me.

Sometimes I add different powders such as Irish Moss, Rose Hip Seed Powder. Even ground black seeds to make a mild exfoliation.

Not only does it look beautiful but it is a wonderful way to add more nutrients to the skin as a mask.

Happy Cleaning

Your Body is a Canvas

We are all born with one body. It is up to us to decide what we should do with it. Do we  choose to take care of it by eating pure, non processed foods, caring for our skin and our minds. Or choose to eat foods that are devoid of nutrition and life. Letting stress overcome us, and not loving ourselves.

Our body is a canvas. We can adjust anything that we please. It will take patience and perserverance but anything is possible.

Here are some tips to help get to your path to radiance.

1) Eat a diet that is as pure as possible. Foods that you can recongnized at its pure state. For example Quinoa and Spinach. With lemon juice. Pepper to spice it up.

2) Learn to love yourself and accept yourself.  If we always judge ourselves and always focus on things we don’t like about ourselves, then that will be detrimental to our self esteem.  We have to learn to love ourselves in the moment. We are all beautiful in our own way. And we are on a journey, whether it be to have glowing skin, be fit, or finding our purpose in life.

Focus on the things you love about yourself.

3) Relax and meditate. People are so focus on what they are going to do tomorrow or stressing out about things that probably aren’t even going to happen. Take time to focus by being in the moment. Close your eyes, breathe in and out. Open your eyes and things will look brighter. When we are living in the moment, things seem clearer and we become more happier. Meditate daily, even if it’s 5 minutes a day, and relax!!

4) Take care of our skin. The more we love ourselves. The more we want to take care of our skin and our body. Use only the most purest oils and plant ingredients that you can find. Experiment and find ones that you love how they smell and feel. Our skin will glow and be so soft.

5) New Experiences. Do something new and exciting. If you haven’t practice yoga, try it just once. Or if you into taking photographs but haven’t gotten around give it a go.
You be surprised at how those little new experiences make you grow as a person. And you will enjoy spending your time doing what you love.

The Essentials

Sometimes it is good to keep things simple. By having a routine that has products that you know will work for you, it makes things alot easier when creating your own skin care routine.
We all do this sometimes, we have a million of products in our bathroom or vanity and yet only reach out to a few of them.
Here are a few of my essential skincare products.
Some of its uses may surprise you.

Cleanse: For me, personally, I cannot use any soap or any cleanser that foams up. It  irritates and dries out my skin like there is no tomorrow.  Generally I stick with raw manuka honey or raw honey when I out of manuka. I also mix fresh batches of my non foaming cleansers using oils and dry ingredients. Some of the ingredients which I mention on my post call “Nectar” Include turmeric, and rosehip seed oil. Those two I know will always work for my skin. I get creative and mix either Hibiscus powder or Irish Moss for a more exotic and luxurious cleansing experience.

Manuka, Turmeric, Rosehip Seed Oil.

Hydrate: To keep skin supple, it is important to moisturize your skin. I love experimenting with all kinds of oils. My favorite oil includes a mixture of several essential oil. The ingredients are Rose Otto, Neroli, Carrot Seed, Frankincense, Lemon, Helichrysum, Cistus, Lavender, Rose Hip Seed Oil. I mix 2 to 3 drops with one pump Rosehip Oil with Vitamin E. Another way to hydrate is by saturating your skin with hydrosols. I always reach out to them, and it feels so refreshing to the skin. It calms and hydrates the skin. I am loving Rose Geranium and Helichrysum.

Rose Regenerative Facial Oil, Rosehip Seed Oil, Rose Geranium and Helichrysum hydrosols.

Nourish and Regenarate: When my skin needs a little treatment I tend to use products that are anti-inflammatory and healing. An oil that I love using is Tamanu Oil. It works amazing to heal skin, It also has regenerative properties. Making this ideal for skin that has been stressed out, burn wounds, cuts and acne.  To nourish my eye area I use White Camellia Oil. I have seen a vast improvement in the skin tone around my eye area. I use it anywhere that needs extra nourishment. White Camellia oil is renowned for its anti-aging properties, high in oleic acid ( Omega 9 fatty acid), Vitamin E.

Tamanu Oil, White Camellia Oil.

Sometimes it is good to keep skincare simple.

Today I am going to be writing about a facial mask. It is not just any mask, in fact, this mask has very potent ingredients that have amazing benefits for the skin. Now mind you it is not a store bought mask where there are harmful preservatives. This is made fresh in your bathroom.

This is one of the many DIY’s that I hope you will enjoy.  I love using a mask or “paste” as I would call it. It’s a great way to repair, nourish and stimulate the skin. It also helps slough off dead skin.

Here is the recipe that I use both as a mask and a facial cleanser. What can I say? I like to multi-task my skin products.

I call this mask Nectar.

1 TBS of Manuka Honey or Raw honey

1/4 TSP of Turmeric

1/2 TSP of Nutmeg

5 drops of Rosehip Seed Oil

3 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

Add a couple of sprays of any hydrosol you like. Eg. Helichrysum

Mix together and apply on a moist, cleanse face. Leave on for 30 min or as long as you like.

Rinse off well. I use a sponge and that helps remove the mask leaving my skin so smooth and dewy.

Benefits of the ingredients

Manuka Honey: Has healing, antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Works perfect for skin irritations such as acne and ezcema while preventing infection on any lesions.

Turmeric: A root that is renowned for its healing properties. Fades scarring due to acne and other skin ailments and helps with pigmentation since it is a natural skin brightener.  It is also anti-inflammatory and diminishes wrinkles.

Nutmeg: Naturally astringent, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

RoseHip Oil: High in essential fatty acids. Assists with the regeneration of skin.  Rebuilds collagen, keeping the skin supple and radiant. Treats problem skin such as acne, sun spots, hyper pigmentation.

Frankincense Essential Oil: Well known for its antiseptic, astringent properties and it is a disinfectant. Perfect for those who suffer from acne and helps to tone and tighten skin.  Reduces wrinkles leaving a youthful appearance, fades scars and smells amazing.

I use this either daily or I create other masks fresh from oils and dry ( Dirt) ingredients. There are many other dry ingredients that you can use, such as sea plants like Irish moss and kelp.

Hope you enjoy

Liquid Alchemy

Today I am going to blog about one of my daily rituals that I do.

It is saturating my face with these precious droplets of pure plant waters. They are called hydrosols and can do many wonders for dry, parched skin.
There are many kinds of hydrosols, each having their own healing benefits for the skin.
There are several that I use: Helichrysum, Ylang-Ylang, Orange Blosson, Sandalwood.

The hydrosol is what you get when you are using a process called steam distillation. This is what you do to get any essential oil. Basically water and oil combined as they rise they cool down and once again separate. Oil goes in a dispending tube and the liquid in the other. What remains is the hydrosol and it has many beautifying and healing properties. They are anti-inflammatory which is wonderful for those who suffer from acne, eczema and many other skin conditions.

I have tried two skin care lines, one from Evan Healy and several others from Veriditas Botanicals.

Wonderful products that I enjoyed using this past year.

One is by Evan Healy

I use the Immortelle also known as Helichysum. It has a butterscotch, sweet scent. I love using this in the mornings when I cleansed my face. Spray on and let it soak with the facial serum that I applied. Even on hot summer days this hits the spot. Sipping my homemade ice tea and drenching my skin. Awww feels amazing. The hydrosol from Evan Healy works wondeful and knowing that she sources her plant materials from trusted places makes me feel comfortable using this product.

Another skin care line that has Hydrosols is Veriditas Botanicals

I have purchased many kinds of hydrosols such as Orange Blossom, Ylang-Ylang and Sandalwood. They have all kinds and I enjoy using them on facial mask that I do, instead of water add ylang ylang hydrosol and it smells amazing!!!

I will later do a post on a facial mask that I do often when I want my skin to look extra dewy. Stay tune!!!
