Skin Care Regimen

I am a lover of skin, the sensual feeling of smooth, soft. velvety glowy skin.  To achieve that one must eat and use only the purest ingredients that come from mother earth.

My skincare regime consist of a couple of my favorite products. I try to keep it simple, but I do indulge in skincare. I use only the highest quality products that I can trust my skin with. My boyfriend thinks I am a bit of a nutcase with all of these beautiful products. I mean I have to admit he does have beautiful skin, and all he uses is water. But there is something about having a routine that makes me feel beautiful.

So here is my skincare routine. It might change, it might not.

“Life is the flower of which love is the honey” Victor Hugo

For cleansing my skin, I use Wedderspoon Manuka Honey Active 16+

I basically saturate my skin with a hydrosol. Eg Orange Blossom, Rose And massage the honey onto my skin. It is a multi purpose ingredient, I could use it as a mask, cleanser, spot treatment, hair mask.

I have been using Honey for the past 6 months and it has been the only cleanser that is very gentle on my skin. It is a natural humectant and it is also antibacterial. Those two factors play a huge role in which I choose honey over any other type of cleansers.

To tone my skin I reach for hydrosols. I have a few favorites such as Rose, Orange Blossom, Helichrysum and Rose Geranium. I have several types of hydrosols that I keep in the fridge. I then pour some in a 1 ounce bottle that is travel friendly and use it till its gone.
I saturate my skin evenly and apply Cell Food, which is basically a gel that has a lot of minerals and it has been toning for my skin as well as hydrating. As dries it firms my skin and it creates a natural barrier. This product will definitely come with me when I travel on airplane.

I also have been loving La Bella Figura skin care. All of their products are top notch. They smell incredible and make skin care a luxurious experience. They use only the highest quality oils as well as organic and fair trade. My favorite oil would have to be Barbary Fig Seed. It has a healing effect and has high doses of omega to heal skin. It is extracted from the fruit known as “Tuna”

Top Fruit is “Tuna” Bottom is Dragon Fruit.

I also like to layer my oils, and it creates a highly moisturizing effect. And it leaves me with dewy skin, ever since using oils I have not once had dry flaky skin. And I feel my skin to be highly nourish and balance through the day.  For my eyes, I use the Découverte Under Eye Repair Serum from La Bella Figura.  It has so many beneficial oils that help diminish under eye circles, wrinkles and reduce puffiness. I am only 25, but it is never to early to take care of your skin, I don’t worry about getting older, if I can age gracefully and live my life to the fullest, then I am a happy camper. Aging is part of life, and it should be a beautiful learning experience for us as human beings. The older we get the more we can appreciate life and the moments that makes us realize how truly wonderful life is.

Modern Radiance Concentrate is another beautiful product that has been working on my skin. It has a high dose of vitamin C from kadaku plum and it has a nice gel cream like texture that goes on smooth. It does not leave my face sticky, but instead it leaves it plump and dewy.

For added protection I use Daily Elements Defense Face Oil, I use it in the mornings and it has an earthy kind of smell, high doses of antioxidants from oils such as Sacha Inchi oil,  Pitanga Oil, Rose hip seed oil. It is a beautiful blend of oils and it is my multivitamins for skin per se.

There is also a blend that I like to use called Veriditas Botanicals Rose Regenerative Facial Oil. It is a blend of essentials oils and I use it on my neck and Décolletage area. It is very potent and I use it very sparingly.

I know this was a very long post. But I hope you enjoy reading

Enjoy life and until next time.

Imagine yourself in an immense rainforest, overlooking a beautiful waterfall. The water so crystal clear free of any pollutants and debris. Some people have learned to live as one with the rainforest. Only using what they need and taking care of their home, the forest, with the most respect.

I have been reading a book called Health and Beauty from the Rainforest: Malaysian Traditions of Ramuan. Actually I have read it about a dozen times, I cannot get enough of the natural beauty that earth has to offer. Everything from the vibrant red hibiscus, to the fragrant ginger root. All of these raw ingredients are used to create skin care products and also healthy delicious recipes that have so many benefits to the body. One simple recipe that was in the book is called Lulur. It basically consist of ingredients that you may have in your kitchen.

You will need 1 Tsp of Turmeric: As you know Turmeric is highly anti-inflammatory and it works wonders to calm the skin.

1 Tsp of Rice Powder: Believe it or not it, it works by softening the skin and a mild exfoliation.

I like adding 1 tsp of Hibiscus powder as well, but you can omit if you like.

Instead of adding water, I like to add sandalwood hydrosol, or even Rose water.

Blend and use as a scrub all over your body.

Enjoy life

Water Lily

Being in nature has a strong effect on me, working long hours indoors, I start to lose connection with myself. I feel isolated and depleted from fresh air, the blue sky and warm sun. To get in touch with nature one has to go back to the only place where everything is synchronize in a beautiful most eloquent way. To feel the dirt beneath your feet like golden flecks that drift in the air, as every step you make leads you to a path of belonging. There is a lake near my house, and it lies on the center of hills covered in trees. The birds sing and you can hear crickets orchestrating their ballads to the tune of the wind. It truly is the most beautiful thing as a human being to experience. To surround yourself with water, mud, dirt and greenery.

I love how the trees grow out from the water. Nature is so amazing.

Beautiful colors painted by nature.

Everything is connected perfectly.

I love the different patterns on the tree.

This inspired me to create a recipe that has natural elements. When we stick to using natural ingredients and a wholesome diet, our radiance shine. We stay more connected to who we really are, and our emotions sing with happiness because we stay in the moment. Happy to feel that connection that we ever so crave.

Each of these ingredients represent dirt, mud, greenery and water that were inspired from my hike. The have healing properties as well as detoxifying the skin from everyday pollutants that we come in contact from daily activities and our surrounding areas.

Here is what you will need.

1/4 Teaspoon Activated Charcoal: It absorbs toxins, thus help detoxify and get rid of impurities that come in contact with the skin. Deeply cleanses the skin, assist in absorbing excess oil and grime. Perfect for those who suffer from skin problems such as acne.

1/2 Teaspoon  Raw Vanilla Bean: Mild exfoliation, has a beautiful aroma. It reminds me of dirt as well.

1/2 Teaspoon Irish Moss: Rich in Vitamin A D, E, F and K, Irish Moss assist in softening the skin as well as preventing wrinkling of the skin.

1/2 Teaspoon Kelp Powder: Rich in minerals, Kelp also known as sea algae has firming abilities for the skin, and improves skin texture.

1/2 Teaspoon Olive Leaf Powder: Has anti-Inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. Assist in healing wounds and has high levels on antioxidants.

Your skin is the canvas and this is the palette that I have chosen.

Blend with Rose Water

Add 1 pump of Barbary Fig Seed Oil

3 drops of Neroli

3 drops of Carrot Seed

3 Drops of German Chamomile

It blends into a smooth consistency and it is a vivid black tone.

Apply to cleanse skin and leave for 15 min. This mask will help draw out impurities due to the activated charcoal. It will feel nice and cool on the skin. Be mindful and try not to scare people.

Hope you enjoy this mask.

Enjoy life.

Golden Rule

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”  ― Maya Angelou

Skin changes as we grow and mature in age. What you did as a young person may show in your skin decades later. I am 25 and I used to tan carelessly in my late teens to early 20s. Luckily I have change my ways and I wear a large brim hat, eat foods that have antioxidants that help protect the skin internally. I also use high quality skin care products that will protect and nourish my skin. One new purchase that I have made is from La Bella Figura, Daily Elements Defense Oil. Which I am enjoying using it in the mornings.  Of course the sun is not the enemy, we have to be wise about how much exposure we get. It seems natural that when the strongest rays of the sun, animals would go in a shady spot to relax and rest. You see animals more active during the mornings hours and the later hours when the sun is out. At least that is what I have noticed. Now that spring is upon us, we are more active, enjoying the beautiful, and sunny sky.

Here are some ways to take of your skin and reap the benefits for years to come.

1)  Diet plays a huge role in protecting our skin. When we eat foods that have rich in nutrients we are doing our body good. Eating foods that are high in Lycopene ( Tomatoes), Astaxanthin (Found in Salmon), Vitamin D ( Mushrooms) , Omega 3 Fatty Acids( Flax, Fish), Beta Carotene( Sweet Potatoes, Kale) help protect our skin internally.

2) Wear a large brim hat when outdoors, whenever possible. This helps shield your scalp, face and neck from the rays of the sun. Also if you can avoid the strongest rays of the sun which are 11 am to 3 pm, take note on which location that you live. The hours could vary, and have common sense, if you are prone to sun burn, then keep in a shady area.

3) If you wear make-up, make sure you wash your face nightly!!

In the morning  I  use a hydrosol, like Rose Geranium and saturate my skin, the apply raw manuka honey and massage my skin. Then rinse and apply a moisturizer.

4) Exercise, it helps circulate blood filled with oxygen and nutrients through out  your body. It helps decrease stress, and it is so much fun depending on the exercise that you do.

5) Use only the highest quality skin care products that works for you. Plant oils are amazing and have so many nutrients to keep skin supple and hydrated.

I hope you enjoy these tips.

Cacao Flecks

The rich aroma of raw vanilla and cacao mixed with manuka honey, creates one seductive mask. The smell of it is amazing, it includes other potent ingredients and when blended together has healing properties for the skin.

Here is what you will need.

1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder: Anti- Inflammatory, Anti- Bacterial Properties, Anti-Aging.

1/4 Rose Powder (Rosa Canina) :Vitamins A, C, D, E, flavonoids, lycopene, iron, Rose hips contain anti-inflammatory properties.

I use the brand Ojio, but you can use any that you like.If it’s organic even better.

I then blend the ingredients together, the smell of the raw vanilla bean and cacao is so beautiful.

Then add 1 Teaspoon of Raw Manuka Honey to the mix

I also add some healing oils. 5 drops of Rose Otto, if you don’t have Rose Otto you can substitute it for Rose Hip Seed Oil, or Rose water. Then I add German Chamomile, again you don’t have to add it, but this definitely calms down inflame skin. And a special treat, La Bella Figuras Barbary Fig Seed Oil.
Add as much as you like. I add about 4 drops of the German Chamomile and 2 pumps of the Barbary Fig Seed Oil.

Blend all ingredients together and apply to clean face. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. You can even use it as a cleanser.

Enjoy Life.

The Ritual

My home is my sanctuary. When I come home from work, I don’t want to think about it or get caught up in what had happened. I want to unwind and relax.  I make sure to feed my body with organic, whole foods. Lately I have been enjoying black quinoa with a medley of fresh baby greens. Topped off with mushrooms and a tangy, spicy sauce.

By eating foods that are rich in nutrients we are able to help our bodies stay healthy, ward off disease and feel better overall.  I have changed my diet alot. By cutting out the junk and eating only wholesome foods, my skin is looking alot better. I will post pictures of the progress later on. I tend to lean towards a plant-based diet. Back then my diet was full of processed foods and I made no time!! to eat healthy.  Even though I work alot, I have to put myself first and take at least 30 minutes to sit down and eat in peace during my lunch break.

I would also drink teas that were sooooo sugary. Now I make my own,  if I want something sweet, I make a chai tea that has almond milk and raw honey. It has spices such as ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper, cloves and of course black tea. Making your own tea is very simple. My favorite is green tea with fresh mint.

I make all of my food from scratch. It is way cheaper, I used to spend so much money eating out. Now all of that money goes towards my business that I am working on.
And it is alot healthier for you as well,  another benefit is you know what you are putting in your body.

I also make my own skin cleansers and mask fresh, almost daily. Depending on what ingredients I have available and the condition of my skin.

I blend several dry ingredients such as hibiscus powder, rosehip seed powder and many more. Blend it with manuka honey. I then add German Chamomile which is rich in anti-inflammatory and healing properties.  I also add a blend of several essential oils one of them being helichrysum.

After I blend. I apply to a clean face letting all of the goodness of the mask being absorbed into the skin. I then relax , I tend to meditate and it has help with my stress. Stress takes a HUGE toll on your body. And I am working on that by doing breathing exercises and doing activities that make me feel good.

Letting go of the old and inviting good thoughts that is what I aim for every night.

Enjoy life

A Clean Canvas.

When it comes to cleaning your face, it is very important to do it nightly and not strip your skin of its natural oils. You have to make sure to remove makeup, grime, city smog ect.  I tend not to wear makeup, the most important thing for me is to make sure my face is clean, soft and moisturize . There are many options to cleanse the face.

One of my favorite way to wash my face  is to use pure Manuka Honey.  I only been using the 12+, when I have the chance  I will find the 15+  at my local health food or coop.  Manuka has sooooo many healing properties and it is non drying.  To make it more moisturizing, you can add any oil of your choice.

You can try any combination with healing, rejuvenating oils.

One combo that I love is Tamanu and Manuka.

This is the perfect combination in my opinion. Tamanu oil has amazing healing benefits for the skin. It has the ability to form new skin cells. In combination with Manuka Honey, you have a power duo to cleanse, and rejuvenate the skin.

Also I learned a tip by reading Victoria’s post from La Bella Figura Blog, she cleanses her skin with Manuka and she adds Barbary Fig Seed Oil to her honey. Definetely going to give that a try since I received a bottle in the mail that my boyfriend had purchased for me.

Sometimes I add different powders such as Irish Moss, Rose Hip Seed Powder. Even ground black seeds to make a mild exfoliation.

Not only does it look beautiful but it is a wonderful way to add more nutrients to the skin as a mask.

Happy Cleaning
