We all have that one person that we are in awe of their glowing self. The way they walk and transmit their energy. They not only glow from the outside but it seems they glow from the inside as well. I noticed when I am experiencing and living my life in a way that serves me best and I am eating whole foods, exercising my body. I seem to have this glow all over. But when I stress out, eat foods that has no life force in them, and don’t move my body I loose my luster. When I started to connect the pieces and it dawned on me that we tend to make things complicated. Our bodies are intelligent and they want to thrive and when I realize that our cells can regenerate and heal it made me wonder why do we treat our bodies horribly. Creating a habit can be a challenge but it is the motivation that keeps us going and we build upon that to create rituals that can become habits.
With that being said I give you 5 rituals to add on to your day and hopefully you can make a routine out of them.
1) Movement: When we move our bodies it creates the rhythmic motion of life that creates a story of our ancestors. Imagine thousands of years ago, our ancestor traveled long distances. They gathered their food, climb mountains, swam in lakes. They always were on the move. It was life or dead situation for them. Now us modern humans live a sedentary life. Some of us work 9 to 5 working from the desk. It is unnatural for us to be fixed on and not move our bodies. My recommendation is to wake up earlier and do something that makes you move your body. It can be dancing, yoga, Pilates, hiking, anything that gets you going. By moving your body you sweat and you activate your muscles. You release serotonin and endorphins which allows you to feel happier and less anxious. Move your body even if it’s for 10 minutes. The benefits are so worth it and you will be adding a routine to your day that you will look forward too.
2) Hydrotherapy: In August I traveled to the Eastern Sierra Nevada with my beautiful sister. Swimming in hot springs and soaking in a lake with cold water made me realize how therapeutic it can be to be with water and to enjoy the temperature as it caress my skin. We can do the same ritual at home. If you have a tub you can fill it with Epsom salts and soak in the water to soothe your muscles and your mind. You can even fill the tub with cold water and do a cold plunge, doing cold water therapy has so many benefits. I have been watching and learning about cold water therapy from a man called Wim Hof. I will later do a more in depth blog post about this method that includes breathing techniques.
3) Nutrition. We all understand how nutrition plays a role in our health and emotional wellbeing. When we are fueling our bodies with foods that are whole foods we give our bodies the ability to heal and nourish our bodies. Whatever you choose to eat make sure that it gives you the best nutrition possible. If possible minimize processed foods and up your intake on fruits and veggies. Eat a variety of colors in your foods. And also strive to eat seasonal produce as they have the highest content of nutrients. Food can be your healer or it can be your killer. You decide each time you take a bite to eat. Be mindful and be aware.
4) Heliotherapy. How I love summers for having abundant warm days that makes you want to spend all day outside. The sun is so beneficial in so many ways. It affects our mood, when we get sunlight we release a hormone called seratonin. It also helps you produce melatonin which is a hormone that can help you regulate your sleep and possibly prevent some forms of cancer. There are places in the world where it’s dark during winter if that is the case you can incorporate some tools such as a light box which is creates UVB light. There are so many benefits to incorporating sunlight into your daily habits. Even if it’s for 10 minutes of exposing yourself you will reap the benefits. Of course be mindful about the sun, some people are more sensitive than others and you don’t want to over do it. It’s all about finding balance.
5)State of mind. When we stress out it takes a toll on our whole being. Stress is a silent killer that can cause so many health problems. Stress is a natural process that we experience and while some stress can be beneficial, it’s when we cannot shut it off that becomes a problem. There are a couple of tools that you can use to help manage when you are in a stressful situation. You can practice breathing techniques, one that I do that has helped me is I place one hand on my belly and the other on my chest. I close my eyes and I breathe in expanding my belly then my chest. I do 10 breaths in and out or as many as I need and I say to myself ” I am safe”. Another tool that you can use is to take a walk even if it’s for 5 min. It has help me because I focus on my surroundings such as the trees or buildings and it shifts my attention to staying present with myself.
You sometimes cannot change your circumstances but there is one thing you can change and that is you. Your reaction to what is happening around can be your superpower. It all just takes a calm state of mind and it takes commitment to implement these tools to better your life.
All of these rituals are connected in some way and it will benefit you in so many ways. Just stay connected to who you really are, in a way you are the artist and your body is your canvas, these tools are the beautiful colors that will create your own unique masterpiece.
And that masterpiece is you.
Lots of love Che. ❤️
