Evening Rituals

It is June, this month gifts us with cool and dewy mornings that paint the skies grey as the days go by. I work all day and when I come home I enjoy a cup of elixir to start my evenings. I then start my daily evening  ritual of self indulgence that make me feel oh so good. Sometimes we forget the little things in life that are simple yet effective in making us feel happy and serene. I work long hours and when I get home I want to indulge in a self care ritual fill with love and of course beautiful potions.

One new thing that I have been testing out is cleansing my body with oil. I do that with my face so why not with my body I thought. I use coconut oil and rub it all over, sometimes I add essential oils such a Vanilla or Neroli. I usually do the cleansing part outside of the shower. I rub and also do a self massage, you can also do dry brushing before hand to exfoliate and stimulate the skin and lymphatic system as well. I also use a spoon that is made out of horn. I massage my skin with even and firm pressure like if I was using a Gua sha tool.

Afterwards I either will use an exfoliation usually made out of salt or sugar with herbs and spices and massage everywhere in my body.

If I am not doing a salt scrub I will do a mud treatment instead. One day I will travel to the Dead Sea but for now I use a mud from a brand call Amazing Mineral Mud Mask by Dead Sea Warehouse.

By then I will hop on the shower and rinse off everything.

I do the same procedure on my face minus the exfoliation. I have yet to make an updated one so that is in the works.

I use coconut oil and massage my face and lightly use my spoon to massage all over. My skin will turn red for a few minutes but in the end my skin will be taut and tone. I then spray a Hydrosol my favorite right now is Orange Blossom by Veriditas Botanicals.

I then wipe off the excess oil with a cotton pad and you be amazed at the dirt that comes off.

I follow with a blend of essential oils pat on my face and then use an oil follow by a balm to seal in the moisture. I do this on my neck and décolleté as well.
I always give thanks for the amazing opportunity to love and care for my temple, body, mind and spirit.

The important thing is to take time and be mindful in every step of the way. We are cleansing away all of the days grime and renewing our self with beautiful plant oils and Earths gifts. The more we learn to love and appreciate our bodies the more we want to create special rituals that make us feel beautiful.
With Love

Rainy Day

It is raining today, a rare occurance in this dry desert of a place. With the welcome of rain comes a feeling of comfort of lounging around the house. Enjoying the sound of raindrops against the ground. The palm trees swaying softly in the wind.

Days like these make me want to lounge around the house and enjoy my moments of feeling cozy. Creativity starts to flow and the energy that is the driving force creates the urgency to expand and become a reality of beauty and inspirations.

I live in a small studio and I lacked having a space that allowed me to be creative and to write post for my blog. I decided to find a solution.

I searched around for a desk and my lovely sister Frida had one that she no longer needed. I decided to take it off her hands and create my work station. It’s a small sewing table but for now it works perfectly. I am able to stay organize and have a place to expand on my ideas and make them a reality.

For now I am happy camper and currently working on some new blog post.

Stay warm and enjoy life

The Art of Relaxation

The Art of Doing Nothing. The Italians have a saying “La Dolce Far Niente,”

We tend to forget the simplicity of doing nothing. I remember as a child laying on the ground and just looking up at the sky. Even now, I will go for a hike near my house and sit at the top of the mountain and just relax. Sometimes there are days where I just don’t feel like doing anything. It does not mean I am lazy, but I see it as a way to recharge my self. To rest my body and mind and to feel the present moment. A lot of times we forget to really focus, truly enjoy and savor to be in our own presense. If we cannot enjoy being by ourselves then how do we expect for others to enjoy being with them.

Even if you take 5 minutes a day to give to yourself do it. Go someplace quiet and breathe in and breathe out.Feel your body for any tension and acknowledged it. Don’t try to change it but just feel it.

Taking time to get to know ourselves is not being selfish, it is self love and we need more love in our lifes.

Morning Rituals

Every morning we wake up with an opportunity to create a beautiful day full of gratitude and to experience what we call life. We have a choice and when we acknowledge the fact that we are solely responsible for our life and the choices we make we begin to better understand ourself and take better care of our body, mind and spirit.

For the past month I have been waking up at 5 to 530 every day.  I believe that we can make the most of our mornings to take time for ourselves. When we take the time to be fully present and to experience mornings as they are, we begin to experience life for what it truly is, a beautiful canvas and we as humans are the artist that create our life , peaceful and serene. Every choice we make is a chance to create something magical.

Here are 5 tips to start your mornings. If we can make the most of our mornings we can experience a flow througout our day.

1) Wake up with gratitude

If you live with a roof over your head and a warm cozy bed then you are a lucky person. Waking up and having gratitude for all that you have and are experiencing is a lesson that we all must learn. Every morning we are truly lucky to experience the moment when we are most vulnerable, when dawn is upon us and when there is stillness. Stretch your body and give your self time to fully awaken. Be grateful for another morning, for another day and for the moment that you are in.

2) Move your body

By moving your body you create a beautiful way to express your self. Be it yoga, running, or any type of movement that you enjoy doing. I practice yoga and it allows me to be fully present as I move my body and as I take deep breaths in and release all that no longer serves me.  If you even have 10 minutes to spare you can lie on the floor and stretch and move in ways you never though you could. It’s a fun way to get to know your beautiful body.

3) Create a beautiful ritual

As you know I love skin care products and if they have gorgeous ingredients even better. Take a shower or a bath and allow yourself to indulge in oils and butters. Soak your hair in luscious hydrating oils. Spread a mask infused with herbs and Hydrosols .

As you allow the oils to sink in feel free to listen to some music, or even write on your journal, creating your own special ritual that is yours alone.

4) Still your mind

I practice meditation every morning, I cannot tell you how much it has change my life. Many times our minds wander and we are not aware and in the moment to experience our lifes. We are thinking of things that haven’t even happened or worry about things that won’t even happen. If we take the time to enjoy our moments and realize how precious they are, we begin to enjoy our life and all that is really beautiful. We are so amazing to have this awareness and to realize this is such a beautiful gift that has been given to us humans.

5) Take time to get ready and to be more in the moment.

If you are the type of person that rushes to get out in the morning, you didn’t give yourself time to get ready. Allow yourself to get ready by waking up at least an hour earlier if you can. Prepare your clothing and have everything that you need in one spot. I always have my purse in one spot and have my clothes out ready to put on. If you are a coffee drinker, have a glass bottle with water near the coffee pot and your favorite coffee next to it or set your tea out right next to a pot. Make your life easier by preparing.  Create your own morning rituals as they are your own.

Take care

The Rise of the Phoenix

The past 3 years since I have not written a blog post my life began to unfold in a way that was uncomfortable, at times scary. I suffered from anxiety, which led me to having strong panic attacks. One night I woke up in sheer terror, my heart was beating so fast and I was in full panic. My boyfriend at the time now husband was there reassuring me that I was fine, it didn’t help. I almost felt the need to go to the hospital. That year was a struggle emotionally, physically as well. I began to eat unhealthy, putting junk food in my body. I was clueless as to how to healed my self. Over time I got better, but I was not there 100 percent. We moved to a small studio, 2 years ago near hiking trails, and huge mountains. Nature always has a way to heal you if you allowed her. I still was not eating healthy, now consuming soda and eating foods that would make me feel awful. I realize that this was a constant battle. I knew these foods make me feel like crap and yet here I was consuming them. The anxiety was still there but not the panic attacks. I took the responsibility of taking in a dog, she taught me to live in the moment.  Truth was I was an insecure person,  I came to realize that your dog will reflect what really is going on inside of you. Change only happens if you accept what is going on, stop fighting it. Let it flow out from you. Once you understand that only you put emotion to the thoughts that come from you and only you allow them consumed you. Earlier this month, my sister and I went to my good Friends house in Yucca Valley, CA. He lives 10 minutes from Joshua Tree. It was a surreal experience, seeing the stars at and allowing myself to just be in the moment. Enjoying the company of people that I care about. I began to realize that change begins with me accepting  all of my flaws and allowing myself to grow as a human being. I am truly grateful for everything that happened in the past, but I am not my past and I cannot continue to live in the past. Remember to always be grateful for the experiences that allow you to grow emotionally, physically and spiritually as well.

I am just being.

Globe Trotting Essentials

You get to your destination, it’s dry and hot. Dirt drifts into the arid air as you get off your vehicle. The streets are very busy, you see the colors of tapestries hanging on old wooden bars. There are people walking to the cafe where they sell green tea with honey. You start experiencing the smells and the sounds of a new place. All is so exciting that you feel  overwhelmed at the same time. You then wake up and realize it was all just a dream and you have only but a couple of days to finish packing before you head off to Marrakesh, Morocco.ID-100324

Although I have never been to Morocco before, it is on my list of places to visit. Imagine that you were traveling to some place and not have a clue of what to take.

What products do you need?

What would you find there?

I thought it would be fun to do a Globe Trotting Essentials

Simplicity is always good when traveling. You never know what kind of skin care products you could find and end up taking back home. It could be freshly made Orange Blossom Water from Morocco, even Argan Oil made by the beautiful Berber women or spices that you can experiment with to make facial mask. It is always good to do research before traveling. Although it might seem fun to go on a whim and not know anything, it is best to be on the safe side.

First of all if you are traveling you don’t want to haul all of your skin care products. It will take up space in your luggage. So I would stick with the magic 4.

Cleanser, moisturizer, toner and an extra.

My cleanser of choice would be an oil that also works as a moisturizer. My oil of choice is Barbary Fig Seed Oil. It is a highly nourishing oil made from the seeds of a fruit that is also known as Tunas. It is high in Vitamin E and Linoleic acid which is the key to its anti- inflammatory agent. It is very gentle on the skin and it works by healing the skin with its other skin healing properties that it has. You can get it at La Bella Figura.

To tone the skin I choose something that is a little more exotic. I have been enjoying Tulsi hydrosol from Evan Healy. It has a spicy scent and it helps with the respiratory system based on ayurvedic traditions.

“Tulsi in all aspects and places is holier than holy. Where the breeze blows through Tulsi plants, it makes the surrounding areas pure.” Horizon Herbs, Richo Cech

As an extra I like to take Hibiscus powder. I can mix it with an oil and toner and make a mask. It works wonders on the skin. Hibiscus powder has a high amount of Vitamin C, it is anti-inflammatory and an astringent. It is gentle enough to use on most skin types.

What are your Globe Trotting Essentials?

Autumn Love

As summer kisses us goodbye, we say hello to the cooler weather, we welcome the crisp morning air as it hits our lungs.  We smell the dew that lays gently on the greenery.  It is one of my favorite seasons. Such changes in the weather has a huge effect on our skin. And as it gets cooler, we crank up the heat causing our skin to become more dry and itchy.

It’s the time to soak the skin in luscious oils and mask

Here are a few tips to help transition into the cooler months.

Exfoliation plays a key role in creating soft, radiant skin. One of the things that I enjoy doing for my routine is dry brushing. It is an effective way to exfoliate while promoting circulation and stimulating the lymphatic system. It helps bring blood flow to the skin, thus helping the skin absorb the precious oils. Make sure to dry brush firm but gently, it is easier to do it right before a bath or shower to rinse off dead skin cells.

Cleansing: During the cooler months I cleanse my skin with Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil. You can use any type of oil that suits you. Oil is very gentle on the skin, and it does not dry out the skin like other cleansers. One thing that I have noticed was that every time I used tap water my skin would dry out. I have since stop using tap water to rinse my skin and started using just Olive Oil to cleanse my skin. It has a nice glow to it and leaves it feeling soft. The key is to use only enough to clean the face and not leaving it too oily

Hydrosols: The only water that I have been using on my skin is hydrosols, I have been using Rose Water, Orange Blossom and Tulsi. I use them as toner to remove the excess Olive Oil. It is a gentle toner and it is very nourishing to the skin as well. Not only is it very good for the skin, but it offers aromatherapy at the same time. I also like to add some hydrosol water to my bath, and you can also use it as a rinse for hair. It is a multi purpose essential for me.DSCN1755

Moisture:  The thing that I love most about using oils on the skin, is that they sinks in so beautifully. It is absorbed by thirsty skin and leaves it feeling soft and very nourish. There are an array of oils to choose from, all with their own healing properties. During the cooler weather, I choose thicker oils and balms made with oils. Butters are also a nice alternative to balms as they are made from the nuts and create a fatty, highly nourishing treat for the skin. There are mango, jojoba, shea butter, cocoa butters

The important thing is to stick with a routine that makes you feel beautiful. You have to make your skin care routine sacred, and enjoy every step with products you love using.
Stick with it and you will reap the benefits of having gorgeous skin, for you beautiful soul.DSCN1729
